Really, Megan?

Figurative Curb-Stomping:

I notice it much more on left wing sites, but that's because I basically refuse to read angry right-wing sites, so I don't know what's going on there.
Can not soil her precious mind w/ any of those angry right-wing sites.
It's one thing to be angry; it's another when anger is the main force that binds a group together. Call me a vaporing language nanny, but I thought it was pretty creepy when Jon Chait described another liberal journalist, Michael Kinsley, another journalist, as "curb stomping" economist Greg Mankiw for, yes, daring to suggest that higher marginal tax rates might have incentive effects. Woo-hoo!

But why stop with curb-stomping? Wouldn't it be fun to pile ten-thousand gleaming skulls of supply-siders outside the Heritage Offices?  We could mount Art Laffer's head on a rotating musical pike that plays The Stars and Stripes Forever!  Then, in the most hilarious surprise ending of all, the mob could turn on Jon Chait, douse him with gasoline and set him on fire, and then sack the offices of the New Republic!

Somehow, that's not actually funny. Neither is curb stomping, as Ezra Klein pointed out.
When anger binds a group. Tea Party, anyone?

Actual curb-stomping, & not just men shoving each other, falling down & moaning.
Here's an angry right-wing site that thinks this is the funniest thing since, we'll guess, Emmett Till.

Do the Kentucky Head-Stomp!

It’s the dance sensation that’s sweeping the nation:
How many of your mealy-mouthed words are these pictures worth, McArdle? Who's angry here?

And remember, guns at right wing rallies are a-ok, and 2x4's are children's toys.

Oh shit, someone brings up 2x4 in comments and Megan actually replies: "Yes, indeed, I've already said I shouldn't have written that. But that's not quite what I'm talking about here."

Sometimes a 2x4 is just a 2x4

Even better, she tries to brush off the 2x4 comment as something said in her "mid-twenties." Then, after somebody points out that she was thirty when she wrote it, she claims that "mid-twenties" was a "hypothetical."

She did not really say that, did she? I'm not about to drudge through the cesspit that is her comments to find out for myself.

Someone should come up with a Megan to Regular Humans dictionary.

I'm full of shit/just pulled this out of my ass - "hypothetical."

I've completely got all the facts wrong - "you misunderstood my point"

Why cant everyone be as special and as civilized as me? - "I'm an arrogant, self-absorbed prick who thinks I'm better than everyone else."

etc....

So has Megan got any examples of any liberal economists going out and curb-stomping anyone after using a (gasp) violent metaphor?

She seriously doesn't get the difference between someone using a metaphor in an intellectual debate and politicians or bloggers talking about needing to take back the government by force or "water the tree of liberty with blood" or whatever else the wingnut fetishists are purveying these days?

Yes, she did actually claim her empathy-challenged mid-twentysomething was merely a hypothetical, and that she wasn't referring to herself. Even though she clearly was.

Considering the obvious progression from the "X has been thrown under the bus," usually by campaign Y or Z, heard/seen all over the media, to "X has been thrown to the curb" (also widely used) to "curb-stomping," I have to wonder where the vaporous word-nanny & her selective outrage have been for the last several yrs.

yeah,. but from curb stomping we go to grape stomping and everyone gets drunk and watches I Love Lucy re-runs and world peace is obtained at last, so just be patient.

Or I'll hit you with a 2x4

SEE SEE this is why I don't go there anymore. Damnit. I just spent like 15 minutes digging it up:

"Realcynic, it was a paranthetical. I did not mean to imply that I was in my mid-twenties, when in fact I had just turned thirty the week before. I deeply apologize for the poor grammar, but that doesn't really undermine the point of the post, which is that I had changed a lot in five years, and regretted what I had written. Quibbling with side points weakens your argument--or in this case, makes me suspect that you don't really have one."

She has changed, guys. She has changed.

Even if it was a hypothetical and she wasn't talking about herself, it doesn't matter. To claim that it's normal for people in their mid-20s to lack empathy is stupid and wrong. Most people develop a sense of empathy after they graduate junior high.

I don't know if I'm the one confusing "hypothetical" with "parenthetical" or if she is. How does "parenthetical" make any sense as a defense in this context?

"I deeply apologize for the poor grammar."

Megan should make that her signature after every post.

"Quibbling with side points weakens your argument"

I...what? Megan wrote this? I mean, I know she has no self-awareness, but damn.

Most people develop empathy as they exit the toddler stage. The ones that don't, and there are some out there, exhibit Megan's sociopathic tendencies.

Christ, that McCain site is truly, truly disgusting. I really despise these creeps.

Look, Bx4, I wouldn't even have done this if you hadn't given me the quotes, & goaded me.

But yeah, I think I have a rash from visiting.
