Adopt a Highway During Rush Hour

Seriously guys? Risking your fucking lives to pick up litter in a place where nothing lives and only a handful of people visit every year? That's the best use of your time?

Why not clean up the place? They're mountain climbers. If they weren't climbing up Everest to clean it they'd just be climbing up another mountain someplace else.

I think you're severely underestimating the risks involved in climbing Everest, even if you are a mountain climber.

Wow, NoT, you're sounding like McArdle there. Altruism is for suckers, huh?

(Smiley face.)

WHO THE FUCK DOES IT HELP TO HAVE THE MOST REMOTE PLACE ON EARTH FREE OF LITTER?!?!?!

Yeah, people die up there. These folks don't care because they're mountain climbers who climb mountains for no better reason than they like climbing mountains. There's no need for anyone to go up on Everest for ANY reason, so if they want to clean while they're wasting time climbing a giant mountain I say hand them a broom and a dustpan. This is cleaning TO THE EXTREME. Feel the burn, and so on.

NutellaonToast said...

Actually, when you put it that way, I wanna go. How many people can say that they've cleaned in an extreme fashion? Well, I guess about 20 according to the article..., but I still wanna be number 21!

I will applaud your efforts, NoT.

By the way, the first time I learned about snow leopards was through this paperback book, which I bought through SBS when I was in 3rd grade or some such.

Did anyone catch the part about removing the largely preserved bodies of dead climbers from Everest? They should at least leave those.

NutellaonToast said...

I think they should take one body back and leave the other

Ummm... it sounds like these guys are local Sherpas. If they want to clean up the crap that a few decades of lazy-ass Westerners have left on their mountain, I don't see a problem with that.

NutellaonToast said...

I see a gigantic fucking problem with it. I'm fucking boycotting tibet or india or whereever the fuck everest is.

The permits alone to climb Everest range from $10k to $25k. So I'm suspecting that the clean-up expedition is a way to get a free permit to climb Everest.

As for the dead bodies, about 1 in every 6 climbers die on Everest.
