Frozen Blogger Tastes Worse Than The Fresh Stuff

I've never felt comfortable with capitalization schemes for titles. How's that for hypocrisy? Hah.

I sometimes feel like California-based foodies have produced some kind of mass hallucination around the subject of fresh vegetables. But if you poke around your local supermarket, you'll find that they have tons and tons of big freezer full of little conveniently portioned bags of vegetables. Just like pizza or egg rolls. But healthier. Is it 100 percent as tasty as farm-fresh locally grown in-season produce? No.
That's her quoting Matt-Y.

I'm glad that both her and Matt – each masters of cuisine in their own right – are the type to imagine hippies as the kind of people who'd sooner see you die of scurvy than drink orange juice from concentrate. I find this compatible with the caricature of a person as the kind that would think it's up to them to educate the masses about the existence of frozen vegetables. (Pro-Tip: They're in the frozen part of the store.)

Bonus Fun: 26 years of professional blogging experience has still not taught Megan the difference between links on the internet and links from her reader...

Bold words: followed by a semi-[Boy, can I be stupid, sometimes. ~ed.]colon and regular words.

Saw this on Reddit and tried to think of a website for which it would be perfect. McArdle's blog is it.

Crook and Goldberg are just fringe benefits.

I suppose there's an viable point to be made about the merits of frozen or canned vegetables, but why do these two sound so insufferable when they make it?

They talk about frozen vegetables like no one has ever heard of them before and then they act like it's someone else being snooty is why.

Also, Megan doesn't understand why we're picky about where our produce comes from yet gets her salt from Pakistan...

They act this way because they think they're better than everyone else. Any thought they have is gold that needs to be written down and disseminated.

Why the fuck do you think they started blogging?

and Morbo, yes, that does rule.

It's interesting that they are promoting frozen vegetables because fresh vegetables "take too much prep time." Especially when MattY has a picture of frozen brussels sprouts on his entry, and several of Megan's commenters have brussels sprout recipes.

Brussels sprouts require 0 seconds of prep time. Seriously, I can't imagine what you'd need to do to prep brussels sprouts in the form you find them in the grocery store. They do require some cooking time, yes (but I'd think the need to defrost frozen ones would add to the cooking time). Green beans and unshelled green peas do have significant prep time. But most vegetables (that would form the base of a vegetable course) don't have any meaningful prep time. Broccoli crowns take 2 seconds to break up (maybe longer if you don't get the crowns and have to peel the stems). Megan's commenters are lazy morons.

"I sometimes feel like California-based foodies have produced some kind of mass hallucination around the subject of fresh vegetables."

As a California-based foodie, I have to ask why, because I don't have a clue what in the hell she's talking about. Not to mention that California's pretty damn big, so there's hardly a state-wide consensus on the subject of vegetables.

"But if you poke around your local supermarket, you'll find that they have tons and tons of big freezer full of little conveniently portioned bags of vegetables."

Thank you, Megan, but I have known this since I was fucking six years old. Christ, she is insufferable in her condescending tone. Does she really, honestly believe she needed to explain to readers of the Atlantic that there's such a thing as frozen fucking vegetables?

That was actually Matt, so it's his tone but her approval. She goes on to be condescending in her own words, too, though. Don't worry.

Yeah, just noticed that the insufferable twat in this case was Matt ("Since most people did not go to Dalton and Harvard like I did, they probably aren't aware of frozen vegetables"). But you're right - she's mind-numbingly stupid in her own words. Something about frozen green beans never coming out right. I suspect this is because she doean't know how to cook and not really the fault of the beans. I use them all the time and they come out fine.

"It would be nice if we all had hours every day to shop at the farmer's market and lovingly hand-prepare quality meals."

I work two jobs, almost 60 hours a week and I have enough time to hand-prepare quality meals every day.

"We're not eating vegetables because we prefer meat, fat, and cheap carbohydrates..."

She's projecting here. Just because she's too lazy doesn't mean the rest of us are.

You should go make up some shit about her on her post where she pulls the old gossip trick of "Now, I don't believe this but somebody is saying" about Spain.

Or David Villa should just kick her in the shin.

Anyone who thinks fresh and frozen vegetables are comparable in taste has either never eaten fresh or never eaten frozen. A single kernel of raw fresh corn has more flavor than eight ounces of frozen.

Anyone for whom "prep time" for vegetables is onerous is mis-using their time.

Or, w/ regard to cooking, they r doin it rong.
