Oh, This is New; Subtlety!

Hmm, Megan seems to be catching onto the fact that calling poor people worthless slobs that aren't worth our time directly doesn't go over well (It took her only 29 41 37 86 years!).

Extending unemployment benefits is one of the recession-fighting measures that everyone can agree on. But with two million people already in the extended benefits program, on top of the 4.6 million claiming regular unemployment, it's going to put a big strain on both the claim systems, and our pocketbooks.
Wait, Megan, you mean it costs money to give people money?!?!?!?!? HOLY SHIT! BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES! SEAL THE FLOODGATES! CLOSE THE PHONE LINES AND CUT UP THE CREDIT CARDS! POOR PEOPLE ARE TAKING OUR MONEY!!!!!! WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME?!?

I can feel myself being more libertarian already (ie my brain is shrinking). I've heard it's a common side effect or reading MM.

Greenwald covered Megan today. And by "covered" I mean "crushed."

I forget--put me down for 12:05 EST in the Megan Responds to Greenwald betting pool. No doubt he didn't understand her and misrepresented what she said. And he's a sockpuppet and a poopyhead.

She hasn't pulled the "misunderstood me" card in a while. She has also done a lot less "shooting down counter arguments that don't exist" Some of our tags are getting lonely.

Actually, I think she's responding to some of our criticisms. Well, stylistically, anyway. She'll never have substance.

I think this gets right at the core of what infuriates me about Megan and her fellow-travelers. They seem pathologically incapable of entertaining the basic, simple idea that maybe, just maybe, leaving thousands of unemployed, uninsured people without any kind of safety net would have consequences for the national economy and even for them personally that are much more dire than a tax raise here or some strain on the system there.

Of course, it's all explained by the fact that Megan and her ilk are obviously too short-sighted and self-centered to see anything past, "But my taxes might go up and it will be harder to buy that Playstation 3!!!!" Some politico-economic doctrine they got...

Speaking of style, Megan's now part of The Atlantic's new business section. It looks like they're trying to copy Bloomberg, only without any web designers or good writers.
