Never Waste A Good One

W/ Earth Day soon, I'm multi-purposing my output.

Also: Not worshiping any old bastard (Let alone his self-appointed representatives on this planet.) who lets his stenographers get away w/ that whole incoherent contradictory Bible mess.
Who does he think he is, Megan McArdle?
In a Discussion of Biblical whatnot, also featuring FMM's own Nutella. (To whom I say it was all Charlton Heston.)

My New Favorite Comment

From the post on financial regulation:

I think the Colonel should stick to making chicken, as one does not "ask" for mafia protection, by fucking definition.

A bird in the hand... (???)

Wanna Bet?

Decided to visit the comments of the item shorted below, where the small-penis, "An armed society is a polite society," "It'd sure 'focus the thoughts' of politicians if I were waving a gun at them, hee-yuk, hee-yuk" element is out in force.

Freedom-lovers who despise gov't. coercion, but think the imposition of politeness by armed force is a swell reason to have your little friend w/ you at all times are a hallmark of gun-libertarian cognitive dissonance. Or simple hypocrisy. Very difficult to determine. "I've got my liberty, you just shut up or else."

But the important part is Megan engaging. At last, Megan has found an answer to "Go to Somalia, libtard, & take Ron Paul w/ you!" (It must really get to them.) I think/guess/assume that she refers to the Swiss practice of enlisting all able-bodied/minded males from 20-30 in a well-regulated militia & issuing them rifles, so that, should trouble arise, they can (in some cases, on their bicycles) get to the border & start defending the country. One difference between the Swiss & the average American militia type being that Swiss guys aren't given to taking their guns to the bank w/ them, on the off chance that someone won't hold the door for them, & if they did, we doubt that their SIG 510s would be left in their closet much longer. The Swiss have a tradition of politeness (or at least of not being rude while they're ripping you off for whatever they can) that goes back farther than guns. Did I type "politeness?"
It is claimed that approximately 300 deaths per year involve the use of Swiss army guns, mostly suicides and family murders.[6]
Surely the number of offenses to personal honor prevented by an armed society is worth a few dead families. Thanks to the Internet, today's generation can callously place bets on human injury &/or death! I don't think I've ever been prouder of the species than right now. Especially of the union goons & thugs & ACORN, which is apparently so evil it doesn't need thugs or goons.

Enough for me, thank you (it gets worse, w/ argument about statistical likelihood of shootings, & more evasion & weaselry) but help yourself.

"I know for a fact that people like you think you're pretty darned funny. But you aren't."

Nahgunna play my homeless card here; this commenter of Megan's spouts the party line as well as I can, & he gets apocalyptic!

Megan said:

"In practice, what are you going to do with a family that insists on waiting for the perfect Section 8 apartment or assisted housing option to emerge?"

The subtext of this statement is that people who can't get a job are "just lazy". Or, when a speculative bubble has raised the rent on a one-room shack in a crack neighborhood to a little more than you make in a month that something is "wrong" with you.

So, please tell the audience exactly how much time you have spent homeless.

(sound of crickets chirping)

Thought so.

It's real hard to find a job when you have no place to live. Hygiene problems as well as problems storing your stuff, what little you have left, become very serious. And then, of course, since we offshored all of our production and those mythical "information jobs" never appeared to replace them, there might not actually BE a job for you to get even if you could work out all of the logistics of sleeping in a gutter and somehow managing to look presentable enough to GET and KEEP a job. Not to mention GETTING TO A JOB. The public transportation systems in most parts of the country are laughable, assuming even that you CAN afford to use them.

All things you have absolutely NO direct experience of. Therefore you really have nothing to say about the subject that is worth listening to.

No, seriously. You don't.

I know for a fact that people like you think you're pretty darned funny. But you aren't. And the unfunny-ness of this situation is only becoming more apparent by the day. All of those homeless in NYC are about to have LOTS of company. People who have never had the experience of homelessness in their entire lives suddenly losing everything as jobs dry up and the balloon terms in their once so easy looking mortgages start slapping them in the face.

People who will never again buy the line that people who can't get work are "just lazy".

Tens of millions of them. And they vote.

The financial holocaust that was just triggered by the pigs in the financial sector is going to make the 1930's look like a beach party. "Temporary Shelters" will become permanent tent cities. The streets of our cities will be teeming with armies of the newly disenfranchised, all looking for someone to blame.

And as for you... I hope you put all that lovely cash of yours in gold. Because if you didn't, you'll be starving along with the rest of them. Because right-wing pundits who make a living by blaming the poor for being poor are going to go out of fashion faster than the hula hoop.

More on Tyibee

Hooh, hoo, fun:

Megan McArdle (Replying to: NattyB) July 10, 2009 6:37 PM

As I say, I don't think that the message excuses incoherence on the details. I don't disagree that the banks need to be taken down about eighteen pegs. But I don't think that Taibbi's the man to do it. Or if he is, he's carefully hiding it.
To which I say:
Nutella on Toast (Replying to: Megan McArdle) July 12, 2009 2:48 PM

Cool, so how about making a single post about how they need to be taken down any pegs at all, let alone a dozen and a half.

Criticize them just once, place. I dare you.
God I wish that my back felt better so that I could go outside an play. Trawling for dumbass on the internet has gotten so dull. Is there any other place where the more fishermen there are, the larger everyone's catch is?

Cottage Cheese

Not that I've been adding anything here recently, & there's no such thing as bad publicity (especially w/ a link) but

There’s an entire cottage industry dedicated to picking apart her posts and they do a pretty good job.
let's name some names here, people! Not merely FMM, but fellow cottage snark industrialist Susan of Texas.

At least this guy was kind enough to link.
Ted, here is a blog that chronicles McMegan’s insipidness.
Do read both the linked threads. Then no one here will have to waste time or keystrokes on the inspirational Megan posts.

Oh, we see it's been done. Have to do some catching up around here.

COMMENT OF THE WEEK

Don't for one second think I mock Ms. McArdle (whose current COMMENT OF THE WEEK dates to 16 December) w/ the title of this item. Not one second.

Because this is as good a comment as any in 2009. (Comment of the month?) It gets both Megan (who's been on the radio twice in as many days) & the NPR part of radio.

The Ignorant Investor said...
NPR likes to show they are seeking out balance in their reports. For every quote from a person who knows what they are talking about, they need to have a quote from Megan to balance out the smart with the stupid.
