Megan's super important QUOTE OF THE DAY:
"When the people who built this country got bitten by bedbugs, they didn't go whining the the nanny state for a chemical fix. They scratched." ~ Mark KleimanTell it to your inhaler, you idiot.
UPDATE:
Oh I had forgotten how many nuggets a quick perusal of her blog yields. On computer instability:
I've done all the obvious things--not only tried new browsers, but uninstalled all my add-ons, cleared my cache, even switched computers (which didn't help). I just lost a post that I spent two hours writing, and this isn't the first time it happened--yet it's something that virtually never used to happen to me.Hmmm, did you try holding down the control key while pressing the "S" key? The one in the lower left and right labelled "Ctrl." "S" is in the middle on the left hand side...

Kleiman finally added comments to his post:

Renee, I seem to have omitted the tag. My bad.

And yes, in case the glibertarians haven’t noticed, contemporary bedbugs are DDT-resistant. You know, if Sarah Palin were right about evolution, the pest problem would be much easier to solve.
Pretty clear he meant the sarcasm tag. Megan posted a joke aimed at her, without any visible recognition that she was the target.
How did she lose two hours of work? Almost all blogging formats are running an auto-save of some kind. Any writer who loses huge chunks of their work in this day and age is an idiot, save for your computer exploding.
Megan spent 2 hours on a post?!
Must have been the Warren takedown, part 2. Sabotash!
Hah! I hope you're right, Downpuppy, cause that'd be just too fucking much.
As usual, I'm too lazy to go check myself.
She probably meant 0.2 hours.
I have no idea how you lose a post. If your browser is crashing and you can't save your work at regular intervals then use that program known as a word processor. Most of the new ones will allow you to put in HTML code. I know I know its crazy.
Of course my comment was ironic. And of course Megan McArdle, who knows my writing, knew it was ironic. Unlike some humorless dweebs I could mention, Megan can laugh at a joke directed at her own prejudices. Also of course, and unlike the Teabaggers, Megan understands that the federal role in financing science is not only legitimate but essential.
My god, Mr Kleiman, are you trying to IMPLY something?
It's so strange-Megan's jokes sound exactly like Megan's writing. After all, this is the same person who said that going to the doctor kills more than they cure. That health insurance reform will kill more people than the Iraq war. That the federal government doesn't finance innovation because drug company profits fund 80-90% percent of medical innovation, which was a bald-face lie.
For something to be ironic it must be an exaggeration. There is nothing exaggerated about McArdle saying the government should stay out of the "free market" and let people suffer instead.
Most of all, McArdle is not being ironic because McArdle is not being ironic.
To assume that McArdle understands anything is to bet against the entire weight of her archives, which are technically false & collectively nonsense.
One more thing--McArdle didn't correct her commenters like Kleiman did. She made an erroneous correction about DDT, but didn't mention that she was joking. Not even when one of her commenters said hippies (who evidently personally outlawed DDT) should be hanged.
Is he sure she was joking?
Also, who uses the word dweeb? Or were you being ironic?
I'm not sure Mr. Kleiman understands the implication of his claim. He is stating that McArdle is so very very Savvy (TM Julian Sanchez) that she feels free to mock conservatives, liberals, and libertarians. In fact, she feels free to mock her own commenters!
That is not very nice.
Naw, it was obvious she was linking jokingly because she thought it was funny, but she's obviously still awful. Did you see her latest post about education signaling and groan?
I swear she's been more awful that unusual of late. I haven't read as much awful shit from her since 2002-2004 janegalt.net.
That post must be a trap as well, because McArdle's success is due almost entirely to her education pedigree. So she can't be saying that education is an inefficent signalling mechanism because she was hired on the basis of her elite schools' reputations.
She must be joking.
where is there any indication that she realized that this was a joke?
And that password post? It must be a trap as well. She could write down her passwords and put them in a safe place. If not a safe.
But now I am thinking, what if that is too easy? What if she really has a very good reason for constantly forgetting her passwords that we just don't know about? Or what if she's kidding, and she's making fun of all those people who forget their passwords and lose their cell phones and Kindles?
My head is spinning!
And that password post? It must be a trap as well.
I suspect so. It would probably be too much to expect Our Lady of teh ****** to be aware of the existence of applications that rember all your passwords for you, like Roboform, but surely, she has heard of pen and paper?
Speaking as a former network administrator
I weep for humanity and any routers or switches she has come in close contact with.
