Cobwebs

obviously FMM has gone stale. I can't speak for Nutella or M., but while I'm not going to say I'll never post again, I have no interest in reading any of Megan's words in the foreseeable future. As whoever is reading this probably knows, Susan continues to hold her nose and wade in, generally doing a better job of refuting Megan than our point and laugh method ever did.
I'm a contentious, moody, cranky fuck, but even I can't stay reactive forever, and, much as I love them, it's easy to lose sight of how ultimately unimportant even the biggest blogs really are. The truth is constantly reading and responding to Megan left me picking up some of her habits; the intellectual laziness, the glibness, and the poor writing. It rarely requires any actual effort to point out the flaws in her arguments, so I rarely put any in. The Nietzschean in me can't help but think of the line "if you stare into the Abyss long enough the Abyss stares back at you".
I'm not shutting this down, I still have vague plans to re-purpose FMM along slightly broader lines, it's not like The Atlantic is the only once respected imprint currently employing useful fucking idiots, and libertarians continue to exist, Reason is always good for a laugh. But for the time being, at least, FMM will probably remain dormant. Anyways, thank you for reading and commenting and making the best moments here more than just us ranting about Megan.
And here's a random vid I took back in April of Thom Yorke covering "All For The Best" during the solo portion of an Atoms For Peace show.

World Keeps on Turning

TBogg does a nice job point out how stupid McMegatard is. Enjoy. The comments are also rather nice.

A Brand New Low

It takes an astoundingly bad comic to strip off all of the sympathy from the scene of a young dog being struck by a pick up truck. What, in God's name, is happening in panel 2? Invisible bicycle?

PUPPIES!!!!!

The usual suspects have noted that Megan is upset over some dogs getting shot in a drug raid. She claims to have quaked with rage.

If only we could get her to quake with rage over other deaths... maybe some of the ones she had a hand in encouraging?

An Outwelling of Charity

I'm very surprised that Megan hasn't been screaming her head off about the beauty of BP's selfless decision to give millions of impoverished shore birds direct delivery of free crude oil. You'd think she'd be all over that sheening example of corporate benevolence and the utter uselessness of government efforts to solve our problems.

Some Sanity

in honor of some impotent asshole failing to kill and terrorize innocent people in my hometown tonight I think it's time for our annual rereading of Manifesto: A Press Release From The PRKA.

Now it can be told.
Last Thursday, my organization, People Reluctant to Kill for an Abstraction (PRKA), orchestrated an overwhelming show of force around the globe.
At precisely nine in the morning, working with focus and stealth, our entire membership succeeded in simultaneously beheading no one. At nine-thirty, we embarked upon Phase II, during which our entire membership simultaneously did not force a single man to suck another man's penis. At ten, Phase III began, during which not a single one of us blew himself/herself up in a crowded public place. No civilians were literally turned inside out via our powerful explosives. No previously funny person was reduced to a baggy pile of bloody leaking flesh, by us, during this Phase of our operation. In addition, at eleven, in Phase IV, zero (0) planes were flown into buildings.
All of this was accomplished so surreptitiously, it attracted little public notice. ...
Read it.

Get Me Everybody

A blog from the city of my alma batter has the best take on the Arizona crap-a-doodle I've seen:

I propose relocating the entire population of Puerto Rico to Arizona. Remember, Puerto Ricans, as citizens of a U.S. Territory, are citizens of the United States... even though they're brownish and speak some crazy fast moon people language. That's almost 4,000,000 (well, not "immigrants" and certainly not "illegal"... so "migrants" or "commuters", I suppose) to perplex and confound state police.
And go ahead and read the whole thing, ydoncha.

A Big Picture of What?

Really Matt?

I think fan fiction is exciting.
Not the example with which I'd have ran... but ok...

update Sometimes, I think Glenn Greenwald is shrill. Other times, I wish that I were gay too and that gay people were treated like people people so that Glenn and I could marry.
It looks like Ross Douthat picked the wrong month to try to pretend that threat-induced censorship is a uniquely Islamic practice

Conservatism in a Nutshell

Shorter Megan McArdle:

New Money
Back in my day we used plain loose leaf with "100 smackers" written on it for cash adn that was good enough. Damn kids today, with their funny money and not wanting of counterfeiters to become rich and all...

Seriously, I like the somber gravity of the old plain green bills, too. I -- like most sentient beings -- can differentiate from nostalgia and practicality, though. Alas, Megan cannot. No, she doesn't like green money because that's all she's ever known. No, she likes green money because it's JUST BETTER.

I'm not linking to her and you can't fucking make me.
