Dunno about Florida, but I prefer to travel South (usually Malta) in late September or early October. The air and the water are still warm (28-33°C/21-23°C), but the nights are cool, so you can get some fucking sleep and the lampuki (mahi-mahi) season has just started. But most importantly, the tourist season is over, so a) the flights are much cheaper and so is everything else, b) you can actually move around the island(s) without running to some obnoxious Brit or Kraut every 100 meters.
Any of the above - or a variations thereof - might apply to Florida?
Don't the elderly spend their winters in Florda?
bul, I'm pretty sure that the Floridian tourist season is in the winter.
DC is quite pleasant in September. Florida might be nicer, but you do have to worry about hurricanes. I'm pretty sure that this is the worst time for them.
Most people in America save their thousand mile trip for winter, when you can go from "bundled up in a winter coat" to "swimming in the ocean." Yeah, the other tourists may suck, but it's Florida. Florida's only native wildlife is the tourist.
but you do have to worry about hurricanes.
Oh yeah, totally forgot about those.
So, alternative theory: did you check for a 'conference' or something similar organized by insurance companies or any other corporate pimp Megan has shilled for in the past, is shilling for now or might consider shilling for in the future?
No, I'm just assuming that said conference exists.
Bulbul,
It would be about 85 degrees F or so in that part of Florida, with the same level of humidity, and very, very unpleasant. Most people vacation in Florida in the winter to get away from cold weather.
By contrast, it's a frigin 83 degrees today in DC
meant to say frigid, but frigin works, too.
Florida is not nicer than DC in September.
I was in southwest Florida in July once. You could literally feel yourself dying when you were outside.
Ft. Walton should have the same weather as Houston, more or less. It's horribly hot and humid, and we are preparing for hurricane season.
One of her commenters typed something about the season there being over now, less people, cheaper, blah.
I was in Ft. Walton Beach a week ago. The weather was sunny - high 80's - and the beaches weren't crowded. The sand is sugar white and the water is turquoise. Can't imagine why anyone would like that.
Ft Walton is where Claudette hit, the only TS to hit the US so far this year.
Stephanie, the weather today (yesterday? forget when In checked) in DC was 83 degrees and sunny.
I don't know why you'd want to travel a thousand miles from that.
