And Then the Dinner Party Turned Awkward....

via Balloon Juice comes what was once impossible; Ezra pooping on Megan.
I'd give Ezra credit, but he's just jumping on the bandwagon at this point. If anything it seems like he's just getting in on the pile-on to stay part of the gang, but then I'm not inclined to respect him to begin with. I guess he means well, but he's a careerist, and railing on Megan now either makes him an opportunist or a past hypocrite.

Jesse Taylor, Ezra's old blogmate, takes a crack at McArdle as well.

Matt Y pooping on Megan, and now Ezra? The cool kids have banished Megan from the pundit minor leagues!

Matt Y. got defensive when someone pointed out the obvious - that Ezra and Matt used to link to Megan all the time. It was a three-way love fest while the kids competed to become the next George Will.

That comment was pure LOL.

The fact that any of these people are deemed the "thinkers" of our time should give pause to anyone to re-read even Thomas Paine in tears.

It takes a village to cover all of McArdle's errors. Here's another one.

I think Megan and Ezra were fucking, then she started going with Suderman. E and M agreed it wasn't serious, Megan could never love a small minded liberal, but E fell for her harder than he was willing ot admit. Now he lashes out due to misplaced rage about the wedding announcement.

I very much hope we never find out.

I loved this comment over at Pandagon:

"Jesus, is this finally the week that everyone on the internet realized Megan McArdle was an idiot?"

You guys have realized it here practically since she started her gig at the Atlantic. The pile-on as of late is incredibly wide-spread. I almost feel sorry for her.

Ha! Did you see who left that comment? August Pollak, who did the Megan/iPhone line/refugee cartoon.

Although in typical member-of-the-tribe fashion he tried to walk back his criticism a little bit.

I think being called a "member of the tribe" is the most ironic crack at me I've ever had levied. The incestuous unending cocktail party that was the progressive 20-something crowd in DC is the one thing I have failed to miss in the year since I've stopped living there. If you had to indicate in your blogroll that someone was a some point a roommate and/or lover the damn thing would look like one of those FBI mafia family tackboards.

It is lovely to see the tide turning. Suderman must not be popular in the DC elite aging kids clique, or Megan has gotten extra insufferable since the engagement.
Although it annoys the hell out of me to see some Balloon Juice commenters singing Ezra's praises for jumping in. He's gonna get away with it, I fear.
Him n Yglesias are the coming powers to be. Fuck.

The fact that you criticized McArdle at all proves your point, but I have to ask--why did you say she was probably nice and not an idiot, when she so obviously is not nice and does not use her brains? I ask because I believe this network of politeness is contributing to the problem.

It also annoys me that everyone seems to like Coates so much. I haven't read anything by him that I found interesting, ever.

Even the ones that I agree with, I find to be such lazy, shallow thinkers. Why does anyone let anyone besides me do anything?

Susan of Texas said...

Coates has talent but he's like a million people out there, held back by ego. We're not inherently better than anyone else, something these over-praised former prodigies haven't learned.
