A response

Megan thinks we're not funny (see update), and is trying to lay down some rules.

I'll do what you say, Megan, if you admit you are nothing more than a conservative and discontinue disingenuous attempts to discredit and slander your ideological opponents, discontinue your own attempts at humor, admit that enabling corporate misbehavior is something you see as a positive for your career prospects and discontinue doing so, and apologize for being a horrible narcissist.

Also, if you quit your job and never blog again, then I'll definitely stop.

Update:

I shouldn't blog in the early morning. That link above should be to this. Doy. Now this post will be coherent. I made a mistake, I apologize.
(See how it's done, Megan?)

"Unfortunately, this takes a while: the whole thing is complicated, and thankfully, very few people have spent as much time absorbed in the question as I did while writing this story."

Bitch just channeled Goldberg.

It's really too bad (for several good reasons) that Omar Little didn't stay in Puerto Rico. How much convincing would he need to stick up Megan and her family?

"we'll get bogged down in a labyrinthine set of disjointed explanations."

She really, really writes like shit.

Very few people have spent as much time absorbed in the question? You've got to be kidding me. I've read thousands and thousands of essays, articles, blogs, and news stories about the number of casualties in Iraq. Is she really that big of a delusional narcissist?

but nobody has studied it before with this much care or in this much detail.

I can't say for sure, because I will only read one of her longer articles under the threat of death, and lucky for me, that hasn't happend yet. But I have read a lot of detailed studies and reports on the death toll, and given Megan's track record when it comes to "research," I'm not too confident that she's offered any new brilliant insights. I know that's unfair, and I'm not going to judge it, but crap, a kid's only going to put his hand on a hot stove so many times before he learns he's in store for an unpleasant burn.

And that updated link -- holy shit, not another "why can't you all be as wonderful and civilized and intelligent and well reasoned as me?" post. Stop beating it to death, Megan. Jesus Christ.

And just what the fuck is this: "copulating inanimate objects excreting onto various surfaces..."

Let's try and break that down. "Fucking non-living things that are leaking fluids onto the top of stuff..." Huh? Then there was something about Cher I didn't get either. But that's probably because I'm stupid and uncivilized and I missed Megan's point.

you know, re-reading that post and thinking over my reply in her comments, I actually kind of feel a twinge of empathy for her.

Look back over the past couple of days during which she's come under so much fire. Check out just how many posts are about how much better she is than her detractors. This isn't the work of a self-aggrandizing narcissist. Well, actually it is, but self-aggrandizing narcissists do so because they're insecure. Megan is so frighteningly insecure. It's kind of sad really.

See, it's realizations like this that make me wish I could actually retire. Sometimes I feel like I'm clubbing a baby seal.

Clubbing baby seals is very underrated, in my opinion. It's also a great cardio workout.

You were dead on on the Iraq body count. Her piece said absolutely nothing other than "Lancet was too high, but the real number is unknowable". (You must be predictive geniuses!) It had about two sentences of actual content.

What did Orwell say? Never use a large word when a smaller one will do? And what have many smart people said, that geniuses explain things in way that make the complex seem obvious?

McArdle's prose stylings are an attempt to cover for the fact that she has no idea wtf she is talking about and can't perform basic research or thought.

All her stuff reads like she glossed over some text, didn't really understand it but was impressed by her own ability to poorly grasp a few bits and pieces. And now she has to sell the world on that fact that she's a genius in all fields.
