Is it egotistical of me

to think Megan might have us here just a little in mind in this post? Probably, but still, it's fun to pretend so when reading the following

The internet has allowed the deviants to find each other, to construct a community with shared norms that tolerate, even celebrate, the pain of others. And it cloaks them in sufficient anonymity to get by in the outside world. If people knew what they had done, I doubt they'd survive two weeks--no one would sell them food, rent them shelter, or for that matter, permit them to merge into the exit lane. But no one knows.
She certainly seems offended by the criminal, most extreme examples of the same impulses that likely led her to make prank calls in her idle youth.
But she's still better than these people, because Megan saves her lack of empathy for the millions of people directly and negatively impacted by the policies and power structures she supports, whose faces she'll never see. She plasters on a fake smile and pretends to be thrilled to know everyone whose path she crosses because that's what people are supposed to do in polite society, as opposed to being honest with those around them.
There's more stupid in the post, as always, but it's really nice out and I wanna go play. One more quote
I doubt that the solution is, as the author suggests, just to learn to live with it. Rather, I'd expect that countertrolls will emerge--hackers who put as much energy into harassing these people as they put into harassing us. Evolutionary biologists call people like that "altruistic punishers", and they serve an invaluable purpose in any society. It will certainly be interesting to see how deep the philosophical commitment to pure selfishness really runs--will Fortuny feel the same way if people exercise their right not to have anything to do with him, even sell him the food he needs to survive? I rather doubt it.
How the fuck this is going to happen is beyond me. Megan would be ok with a national vigilante non governmental troll black list program designed to isolate them and cause their deaths? It rather seems so, chip chip cheerio old pip and whatnot. Such a list would in no way be abused by anyone for any bad purposes. Fixing a problem by making it bigger doesn't seem to actually fix a problem.

I can't believe how obsessed she is w/ her obsessional critics. If you can't take the heat ...

I wonder if Megan is making herself liable for a civil suit. Hinting that it would be really cool if some one attacked blog critics seems like inciting mischief or even violence. I'm sure Megan would hate the expense of a lawsuit, even if it came to nothing.

What the fuck are you talking about? "Fixing problems by making them bigger" is the University of Chicago's official motto. It's tattooed onto the ass of everyone who enrolls in classes in the Econ department.

When she wrote the words "altruistic punishers," this is what she saw. Then she went to the ladies room for a few minutes.

I seriously doubt Megan has an issue with FMM, seeing as this site focuses almost exclusively on her all-time favo(u)rite subject, Megan McArdle.
