We apologize for the inconvenience:
I am once again receiving the accusation that I "set up redirects" or "block" access to posts I don't want people to see on my old site. Given that I've just reproduced the post in question here, this belief is a little odd. Nonetheless, let's put this, too, to rest once and for all, because it does pop up over and over. For the record, I didn't think she did that. Megan understands the very basic fact you can't erase anything on the internet. But, considering the passive aggression she's been shoveling this week, I hope you'll indulge me in asking whether the fact that people did think Megan capable of deletion or redirection tells us something about her.
Crime doesn't pay: Even a post about a friend getting shot becomes all about Megan.
This seems like a terrible time to launch into a diatribe on gun control, so I'd appreciate it if no one in the comments did, no matter what side you're one--indeed, I'll delete the comment promptly if you do. But it seems like a very good time to launch into a diatribe on the low quality of DC policing.Just because Megan supports policies that would make shootings more common doesn't mean a friend getting shot should give her pause. Instead, fuck the police for not escorting well off white people home. (Assuming, of course, the friend is white.)

"In order to show sensitivity to my friend's condition, please do not launch into an inappropriate diatribe about political issue X. However, diatribes about political issue Y are completely acceptable, since what matters most here isn't that my friend got hurt, but rather my opinion on the subject of how it could have best been prevented."
"...no matter what side you're one."
Edit. Please. It doesn't take long, Megan. These aren't dissertations you're writing here.
I considered, but upon reflection refrained from, making a snarky remark about gun control in my ownpost about the same subject:
http://thegspot.typepad.com/blog/2008/07/brian-beutler.html
This even though I feel reasonably confident that the victim, Brian Beutler, a card-carrying liberal like myself, would have agreed with it.
Would that McArdle had shown similar political restraint.
And, just for the record, of course I'm sorry he was hurt, n hope he fully recovers. But since I don't know him I'd feel disingenuous making too big a point of that.
It's doubly telling, tho, to find out he's a blogger. Megan was so caught up in feeling scared for herself she didn't so much as mention his name.
It's a good thing he wasn't protesting at the time. Then it would have been funny--to someone else, not Megan, of course--to contemplate his injury.
Why do these people always think that gun control will only be applied to innocent middle-class & above people who need guns to protect them from the barbarian hordes? Can't gun control be applied to criminals?
In case anyone would like to present an accurate picture of DC crime statistics using, like, facts and stuff:
http://mpdc.dc.gov/mpdc/cwp/view,a,1239,q,561242,mpdcNav_GID,1523,mpdcNav,|.asp
1988: 369 Homicides
2007: 181 Homicides
The DC police are teh hopeless!!!1!
Sorry, I just don't feel like doing Megatron's work for her, today. Get well soon, Beutler.
Phooey. That didn't work. Trying again:
Actual DC crime stuff
