A Foolish Consistency Is The Hobgoblin of Small Minds

Therefore, Mlle. McArdle must have a huge mind. Compare & contrast this:

To date, Mark Penn's firm has received $4.3 million from the Clinton campaign. Obviously, the thing to do, if you want to be in politics, is not to be a candidate, but a consultant. You don't have to shake hands or kiss babies, and no matter what happens, you never really lose.

WTF? CEOs are wonderfully inspriational, but a dirty Democratic (& Clinton, yet!) consultant being paid (& it's not as if every penny of that $4.3 mil is going directly into Mr. Penn's pocket, his company must pay employees, perform research, commission polls, blah blah blah from that princely sum) more than minimum wage is wrong? Is that it, just that simply? It seems to me, yes.

Elements of Style:
Obviously, the thing to do, if you want to be in politics, is not to be a candidate, but a consultant.
This sort of thing makes my head hurt, both the crummy syntax & the idea she's attempting to express.

Actually, Megan, "obviously," if you want to be in politics and all you care about is making money, you should be a consultant.

There's something to life other than making money?

Obviously not.
